The union cabinet recently gave Marathi the status of a classical language. And actress Deekshha Sonalkar Tham is currently seen as Ishika in Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gaye, is over the moon with the news. She feels it will create more awareness about the language.
She said, “I think the aim with which the union cabinet made the decision is fantastic. A lot more people will become aware of the heritage that the language holds.”
“In the recent past, Marathi films and Marathi literature have been getting their moments in the spotlight; this will add to it by creating more awareness about the language and the history behind it,” she added.
Deekshha also stressed that Marthi films and series are now being made with a lot more authenticity than before. “There are more realistic characters rather the stereotypical ones. I believe that regional representation will increase due to this recognition,” she said.
She hopes that now more people will learn about the Marathi culture through this decision. “There is so much history in Maharashtra, and it’s very interesting to know. I hope an interest is sparked in the younger generations to learn and know more about Marathi as a language too,” Deekshha ended.
